When moving to Singapore with a family, one major consideration for parents would be their child’s education. Every parent wants the best for their child and with all the different options available, it can sometimes be a daunting task to decide on the right path your child should take. Many international schools in Singapore differ in terms of their structure and offerings. Examples include their target age groups or types of classes available, as well as the extracurricular activities on offer.

It is, therefore, important to understand the various options available and decide on the best overseas family school for your child, be it if they’re international students or not. Singapore offers a multitude of integrated international schools and in this article, we share with you a brief list of just some of the options that can be considered as well as their respective details.

With two campuses located here in Singapore, United World College of South East Asia (UWCSEA) has come a long way since its initial founding as Singapore international school in 1971. As a K-12 school with students from more than 90 different nationalities, UWCSEA is now a fully-fledged overseas family school, offering options available from Infant School all the way to High School. Tanglin Trust School is based on the British education system, providing an education structure that runs from Nursery to Sixth form (Age 3 – 18). The schools’ approach to learning is rooted within the English National Curriculum but also aimed at contextualising their learning towards South East Asia.

Tanglin Trust School also offers a dual pathway of either the A Level or International Baccalaureate for their Diploma pre-university course. This provides an opportunity for students to take charge of their own learning while also offering them much more flexibility in their education. After all, there is no one path towards academic excellence.

3.Australian International School.

Located near Lorong Chuan MRT Station, the Australian International School offers students of years from 18 months to 18 years an Australian IB Curriculum. The school has adopted the IB Curriculum and is taught in conjunction with the New South Wales Board of Studies syllabuses.

AIS comprises the Elementary School and Secondary School. Specifically, the Elementary School is then made up of the Preschool, Junior School and Primary School. The Secondary School then provides a route for Years 6 to 12. In their final year, students sit for the New South Wales Board of Studies Higher School Certificate examinations. In 2013, the IGCSE curriculum and examinations were adopted for Years 9 and 10.

The Canadian International School adopts the International Baccalaureate Program (IB), providing students with a holistic education structure that focuses on both learning and creativity. The Canadian International School is segmented into three tiers, namely, the Primary Years Program (PYP), Middle Years Program (MYP) and Diploma Program (DP). Each program is separated by their respective age groups, guiding students through the years 2 to 19. The school also comprises of two different campuses. The Lakeside campus is located in the western regions of Singapore, while the Tanjong Katong campus is located in the eastern regions.

Waseda Shibuya Senior High School provides a Japanese education for Japanese students residing here in Singapore. The school follows the national framework and guidelines of the Japanese Ministry of Education. Apart from the comprehensive math, sciences and arts subjects offered, the school also provides instruction of English programs that will help students improve their English language communication skills. These classes focus on improving a student’s reading and writing abilities. The school also houses a student dormitory.

The Singapore American School (SAS) provides an American-based curriculum for students from Preschool through Grade 12. As a mark of its academic excellence, it is recognized by the Office of Overseas Schools and is also fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. The school currently comprises of more than 3900 students from over 50 nations, emphasizing the diversity represented in its student population.

Learning in SAS is segmented into 4 main levels – Early Learning Center, Elementary School, Middle School and High School, similar to the education system of the United States. The school has an integrated approach towards learning, allowing for opportunities for students to nurture other talents outside the usual aspect of school life. 7.Stamford American International School.

The Stamford American International School is the only school in Singapore to provide both American-based and International Baccalaureate (IB) Programs. The school provides a unique advantage by offering students with an education structure that combines the American Education Reaches Out (AERO) standards with the International Baccalaureate (IB) Program. Students here are also offered the flexibility of graduating with either the High School Diploma with Advanced Placement credits, IB Diploma or even both. Like Stamford, the school structures education stages with the Early Learning Center, Elementary School, Middle School and High School. This is definitely one of the more interesting independent schools in Singapore. German European School Singapore is an international school that is uniquely distinctively European in character. The school offers both an education in German following the German curriculum and also an English Education following the IBO curriculum. The school comprises of over 1,500 students from more than 50 nations. It is categorized as an “IB World School” and offers Primary Years, Middle Years and Diploma Programs. It also offers a pre-school program in catering for 18 months to 6 years and it is taught in either English or German. Academics aside, the school also holds various after-school extracurricular activities to provide students with a holistic education.
